With the introduction of this innovative system, Cottage Grove drivers can make and answer phone calls hands-free, stream their favorite music or podcasts, and more. How does it work? If you recently rolled off the lot in your new Chevrolet car, truck, or SUV, you’re probably excited to use its convenient new key fob features like remote start. To begin using these features, you’ll need to know the steps for Chevy key fob programming. Need some assistance? Clint Newell Chevrolet, GMC is here for you! To begin, please review our step-by-step guide on how to program a chevy key fob, courtesy of our showroom near Sutherlin.

Chevy Key Fob Programming Instructions

Before we get started, make sure you’ve got your new Chevy remote start key fob in your hand, then follow the steps below:

  1. Manually unlock your car door using the lock on the driver’s side exterior, rather than using the button on your key fob.
  2. Step inside your vehicle, ensuring all four doors are securely shut.
  3. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver’s door while simultaneously inserting your key into the ignition. Turn the key to the “On” position, but do not turn the car on all the way. Your interior lights and radio will turn on, but do not ignite the engine.
  4. Continuing to hold down the unlock button on your door, turn your key back to the “Off” position, then turn it to “On” and right back to “Off” once more in quick succession. (On – Off – On – Off)
  5. Release the unlock button.
  6. Upon releasing the unlock button on your door, you’ll hear the door locks engage and disengage, signaling that the programming sequence can begin.
  7. On the Chevy remote start key fob, press and hold the “Unlock” and “Lock” buttons simultaneously until you hear the door locks engage and disengage again. This indicates that you have successfully programmed the Chevy key fob.
  8. Re-insert the programmed key back into the ignition to the “On” position, ending the programming sequence.

Whether you have a Chevy Malibu key fob or Chevy Silverado key fob, you can follow these simple steps to program it. Need a little extra help programming your new key fob? Buying a used vehicle in Roseburg is a great way to find a new ride that won’t break the bank. Unfortunately, some used vehicles come with minor issues that may go undiscovered until you’ve had it for a few days, such as an unpleasant smoke smell left behind by the previous owner. Smoke easily permeates soft surfaces and sticks to the fibers of the upholstery, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to improve the condition and knock out the smell for good. To learn more, explore how to get smoke smell out of a car with Clint Newell Chevrolet, GMC near Eugene, below.

How to Remove Smoke Smell from Car Upholstery and Carpet

Getting rid of smoke smell from carpet and upholstery requires a different set of tools than leather. To remove the smell of smoke, you’ll need baking soda and a vacuum. Then, follow these simple steps:

  1. Vacuum the carpet and upholstery, being sure to do an extra thorough job. Be mindful of getting into all the cracks and crevices and under the seats, as old ash may be hiding in these areas.
  2. Sprinkle baking soda across the upholstery and carpet, allowing it to sit for a while. Baking soda is an effective and affordable neutralizer that is great for capturing unwelcome scents.
  3. After allowing the baking soda to sit for a while, you can vacuum it all up. Feel as though the smoke smell is still lingering? Sprinkle more baking soda in small amounts, allowing it to sit for a while before vacuuming again. If you’d like, you can also leave the open box of baking soda in your vehicle overnight to help absorb any leftover smell.

How to Get Smoke Smell out of Car Leather and Trim

Unfortunately, smoke smell can also permeate leather seating and trim. Here’s how to get cigarette smell out of car leather and trim:

  1. Leather and trim require a special cleaner that is formulated to work with them and prevent any further damage to your car’s surfaces. Be sure to do thorough research to find a cleaner that is specially made for your car’s leather or dashboard material.
  2. Following the cleaner’s instructions, you may need to clean the affected surface(s) multiple times, as smoke smell can penetrate deep into a vehicle’s leather and trim.

What About Other Areas in Your Car?

Once you’ve taken care of the areas in your car that are more difficult to tackle, you can shift your focus to other surfaces. Take care to wipe down your windows, front and rear windshield, and replace the cabin air filter in your car. Smoke smell can sneak its way onto all of these surfaces, and can certainly get trapped in air vents.

counting money

Your credit score is key to saving you money on your auto loan and your home mortgage. A higher credit score will get you lower interest rates on your loans, which directly results in lower monthly payments and less interest paid over the life of the loans. If you’re searching for advice on “how to boost my credit score” so you can experience the benefits of lower interest rates, please take a moment to review our tips to increase a credit score, courtesy of Clint Newell Chevrolet, GMC in Roseburg!

Benefits of Raising Your Credit Score

If you have an existing car loan in Sutherlin, boosting your credit score can help you save money on that loan. By increasing your credit score, on average, you can qualify for a better, refinanced loan that can reduce your interest rate by 2.4%. That might not seem like much, but for a $32,000 vehicle with an average loan term of 68 months, that adds up to over $2,300 in savings over the life of the loan. Ready to start saving? Here’s how to get started.

7 Ways to Raise a Credit Score

  1. Review your credit report: Raising your credit score can be as simple as correcting an error on your credit report. Look over your report thoroughly and dispute any errors.
  2. Automate your payments: Since payment history accounts for 35% of your credit score, making on-time payments is key to a higher score. Set up as many of your accounts as you can for auto-bill-pay.
  3. Set up payment reminders: For the remaining accounts you can’t pay automatically, set a monthly reminder on your phone. Consistency is the name of the game, and a steady payment record can boost your score in 3-6 months.
  4. Make more than one payment in a billing cycle: If you can swing an extra payment to your creditors, this will lower your overall credit utilization, which can increase your credit score.
  5. Don’t close out old accounts: The length of your credit history makes up 15% of your credit score. If you inadvertently close your oldest account, you could take years off your credit history and damage your score.
  6. Watch your debt ratio: Make sure you’re not using more than 30% of your available credit. Credit utilization makes up 30% of your credit score, so it’s important to keep an eye on how much credit you’re using.
  7. Contact your creditors: If you can’t afford your payments, contact our creditors to set up a new payment plan. This is much better than missing payments.

toy car stack of coins and calculator

You already know that when you apply for a loan in Eugene, you’re going to be charged interest. That said, you might be wondering how your interest rate impacts your monthly payments and your total amount owed in the long run. Explore this and more with Clint Newell Chevrolet, GMC as we discuss how to calculate interest rate on a car loan, below.

What Is an Interest Rate?

When you’re learning how to figure interest on a car loan, a good place to get started is to explore exactly what interest is, as well as the factors that can impact it. If you’re purchasing a vehicle on credit, your lender owns the vehicle until it’s paid off. The interest rate you pay is essentially a fee paid to your lender in return for borrowing their money to obtain your vehicle. The interest rate you pay is based on numerous factors, including:

  • Principal Amount: This is the dollar amount you’re seeking to borrow from a lender.
  • Loan Term: Your loan term is the total length of time you’ll be repaying your loan. Short-term loans tend to have higher payments but less interest paid overall, while long-term loans tend to have lower payments but come with a higher interest rate.
  • Repayment Schedule: Most Cottage Grove drivers make monthly payments on their auto loan, but if you’re able to make more frequent payments, it could save you a good amount of money in the long run. Thanks to compounding, more payments equals less interest paid.
  • Repayment Amount: Each auto loan payment you make puts a portion toward interest and a portion toward repaying your principal.

How to Calculate Auto Loan Interest for First Payment

When you want to know how to calculate auto loan interest for your first payment, use this simple equation:

  1. Divide your interest rate by the number of monthly payments you will be making in this year.
  2. Multiply it by the balance of your loan – for your initial payment, this will be your whole principal amount.

The answer you get is the amount of interest you can expect to pay during the first month of your loan.

How to Figure Interest on a Car Loan Moving Forward

As you make your payments each month, your balance will, of course, steadily decrease. This means you’ll want to recalculate your new balance each month to work out the interest you’ll pay as you move ahead. Here’s how:

  1. Subtract the interest you just calculated from the payment you just made. This will leave you with the amount that you have paid off the loan principal.
  2. Deduct this total from your original principal to get your new loan balance.

Human error and the need to round your total up or down mean you won’t get an on-target calculation every time, but you can consider this as a good foundation for how to calculate the interest rate on a car loan.

cabin filter change

Are you curious how often to change a cabin air filter? Most auto manufacturers recommend you should change cabin air filters about every 15,000 miles, but you should review your owner’s manual to be sure. You might also ask the service department at Clint Newell Chevrolet, GMC in Roseburg, or make a service appointment online. Remember that when it comes to how often to change a cabin air filter, it depends on your driving habits and weather conditions, among other factors. Learn more about when to change cabin air filters, below.

What Does a Cabin Air Filter Do?

Have you ever asked, “What does a cabin air filter do?” A cabin air filter cleans the air that passes through the air conditioning, heating, and ventilation systems of your car. It helps to minimize debris, pollen, dust, and dirt from getting inside your cabin. If you don’t change your air filter as often as recommended, it eventually becomes clogged when driving around Eugene, which has a negative impact on the interior air quality in your car and could endanger your health.

When to Change a Cabin Air Filter

If you sometimes drive over gravel or dirt roads in Cottage Grove or over sandy soil, you may need to change your cabin air filter more frequently. If you’re still not sure how often to change a cabin air filter, these are some warning signs to look for:

  • Persistent foul odors
  • Increased amounts of dust settling onto the surfaces of your vehicle
  • Reduced airflow when the air conditioning or heater is on

How Much Does a Cabin Air Filter Cost?

If you’re thinking it’s time to change your cabin air filter you may wonder, how much does a cabin air filter cost? The cost of a cabin air filter usually depends on the make and model of your car, but typically, a cabin air filter costs between $30 and $70. If you take your car to a Chevrolet authorized service center like the one at Clint Newell Chevrolet, GMC, and your Chevy is still under warranty, some of the costs of air filter replacement might be covered.

tires

When you buy new tires from the original equipment manufacturer for your new vehicle or you invest in high-quality replacement tires, they can be expected to last approximately 50,000 miles on Eugene roads. Learn more about tire life expectancy and gather some helpful tips to ensure you get as much out of your tires as possible with the auto service professionals at Clint Newell Chevrolet, GMC.

What Can Affect Tire Life Expectancy?

The answer to the questions “how many miles do tires last” and “how many miles should tires last” can have different answers, depending on numerous factors.

  • Tire Type: High-performance tires offer extra grip on Cottage Grove roads, but they’ll tend to wear out faster than all-season tires, which have less rolling resistance.
  • Treadwear Rating: All tires come with a treadwear rating that indicates the life expectancy of the tire treads.
  • Drivetrain: Whether your vehicle has front-wheel, rear-wheel, all-wheel, or four-wheel drive will cause the tires to wear differently, as the main power source for forward motion is different with each drivetrain.
  • Road Conditions: If you frequently drive on rough roads or encounter construction, snow, salt, rain, and ice, your tires are more susceptible to wear. Additionally, if you do a lot of off-roading, your tires may wear out much faster.
  • Terrain: Do you live in an area with a lot of inclines? Your tires require more friction to stop and start on hills, which can cause them to wear out faster than if you lived in an area with mostly flat roads.
  • Driving Habits: Ever been accused of having a lead foot? This can cause your tires to wear out faster – it’s best to accelerate gradually and coast to brake.

Get the Most Out of Your Tires with Tire Care Tips

Being more mindful of your driving habits can do wonders to increase your tires’ life expectancy, but there are other tips you can keep in mind to help:

  • When you’re filling up on gas, stop by the tire inflation station to check your tire pressure. Most gas stations have a free inflation station on-site if you need to air up a bit.
  • Check your tire tread depth on a regular basis for signs of tire tread wear.
  • Be sure to keep up with regular tire rotations and other routine maintenance.

Financing a new or used car simply means taking out a loan and paying for your car in monthly installments. That way, you can drive your Chevy off the lot right away, and then pay for it at a pace you can afford. You have a few different options when it comes to financing. For example, how does financing a car work if you have bad credit, or you want to take a loan directly from your dealership? Read below for an overview of your financing options in Eugene.

What Does it Mean to Finance a Car?

How car finance works depends on several factors, including your unique financial situation and whether you choose to finance with your bank or directly through your dealership. Lenders will consider your full financial picture in their decision to offer you a financing deal. The following factors help determine your loan eligibility for lenders:

  • Credit Score
  • Debt-to-Income Ratio
  • Age of the Vehicle
  • Loan Amount
  • Repayment Term / Length of Loan

Finding a Financing Plan that Works for Your Budget

What is financing a car compared to leasing? When you finance, you make payments toward ownership. Leasing allows you to rent use of the vehicle and return it to the dealership at the end of your lease term. Monthly lease payments are typically lower than financing payments, but you also have options for negotiating lower financing payments if it’s important to you to own your vehicle.

Before you apply for financing, figure out how much you can afford to pay each month, or use our monthly payment calculator to find an accurate estimate. Here are a few points to keep in mind as you start your search for a lender:

  • Low or no credit? Making a large down payment can help convince lenders to offer you a lower interest rate.
  • Trade-in your current car. Value your trade-in with us and subtract that amount from the price of your new vehicle.
  • Draw up an accurate budget. Remember to include fuel, insurance, and maintenance costs when calculating your budget.
  • Determine the highest possible payment without the risk of falling short. Cottage Grove drivers can enjoy significant savings with a higher monthly payment, but late payments can damage your credit.
  • Submit all your financing applications within two weeks. If you apply for financing with multiple lenders, submit all of your applications within the same two weeks to prevent damage to your credit score showing up on an application.

overheating engine

What Does It Mean When Your Car Overheats?

If your car overheats, you should consider it as a sign that there is a bigger issue looming that you’ll need to take care of. Some common reasons a car would overheat include:

  • There’s a leak in the cooling system – Oftentimes, a leak in the cooling system will cause a car to overheat. The thermostat housing, water pump, head gasket, hoses, and radiator are all cooling system components which are susceptible to leaks.
  • There’s a problem with your coolant – If improper coolant was put in your car or the coolant-to-water ratio is off (it should be 50/50), your engine is more likely to overheat.
  • There’s a blockage in the coolant hose – The coolant hose is yet another vehicle component that can malfunction and cause a car to overheat. As you drive in Cottage Grove, there are many opportunities for dirt and debris to enter the cooling system, causing blockages in the coolant hose.
  • There’s an issue with the radiator – The next common culprit is radiator issues. There could be a leak, blockage, or a problem with the radiator fan, which can make a car overheat.
  • Your car’s water pump is broken – The water pump is a vital part that sends engine coolant throughout the cooling system. If your water pump has suffered a leak or an off-kilter pump shaft, overheating can quickly occur.

What to Do When a Car Overheats

You may not know your car is going to overheat until you hit the road in Sutherlin and find yourself with a smoking hood. If your air conditioning is running, the first step is to turn it off and turn on the heat at full blast to help pull heat off the engine. Once you’re pulled over to safety, do not attempt to pop the hood by hand for at least 30 minutes so you don’t burn yourself. The best way to ensure your own safety and that of other drivers on the road is to call a towing service to have your car taken to a service center of your choice.

Where Is GMC Made?

If you’re curious who owns GMC, then you may also wonder, where is GMC made? The GMC headquarters is located in Detroit, Michigan, but GMC vehicles are manufactured at multiple North American and Canadian assembly plants owned and operated by GM. Learn more below about where your favorite GMC models are built:

  • GMC Sierra:GMC Sierra models, including the 15002500HD, and 3500HD are manufactured in Roanoke, Indiana at the Fort Wayne assembly plant.
  • GMC Yukon and Yukon XL: This popular full-size SUV is built in Arlington, TX at the Arlington assembly plant.
  • GMC Acadia: The three-row Acadia SUV is manufactured in Delta Township, Michigan at the Lansing Delta Township assembly plant.
  • GMC Canyon: This mid-size pickup truck, perfect for Eugene off-roading, is built in Shreveport, Louisiana at the Shreveport Operations assembly plant.
  • GMC Terrain: The Terrain crossover SUV is manufactured in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, at the CAMI assembly plant.

General Motors and GMC History

If you would like to know more about the history of GMC as it relates to GM, read the timeline below:

  • Rapid Motor Company was founded by Max Grabowsky in 1902. He is famous for developing some of the very first pickup trucks in the world.
  • Seven years later, in 1909, GM bought Rapid Motor Company, making way for the General Motors Truck Company (GMC).
  • In 1912, GMC debuted its first mass-produced trucks, selling over 22,000 models.
  • During WWII, GMC became a major provider of trucks to the U.S. Military, while simultaneously manufacturing over 600,000 trucks for civilian use.

Have you noticed resemblances between Chevy and GMC pickup trucks? They look similar because they’re manufactured in the same plants and use the same parts, so it shouldn’t surprise you that they share identical engine options. However, their trim levels and interiors are quite different. GMC models often appeal to those Cottage Grove drivers who prefer a more luxurious cabin.
