Man Holding Key Fob

If you recently rolled off the lot in your new Chevrolet car, truck, or SUV, you’re probably excited to use its convenient new key fob features like remote start. To begin using these features, you’ll need to know the steps for Chevy key fob programming. Need some assistance? Clint Newell Chevrolet is here for you! To begin, please review our step-by-step guide on how to program a chevy key fob, courtesy of our showroom near Sutherlin.

Chevy Key Fob Programming Instructions

Before we get started, make sure you’ve got your new Chevy remote start key fob in your hand, then follow the steps below:

  1. Manually unlock your car door using the lock on the driver’s side exterior, rather than using the button on your key fob.
  2. Step inside your vehicle, ensuring all four doors are securely shut.
  3. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver’s door while simultaneously inserting your key into the ignition. Turn the key to the “On” position, but do not turn the car on all the way. Your interior lights and radio will turn on, but do not ignite the engine.
  4. Continuing to hold down the unlock button on your door, turn your key back to the “Off” position, then turn it to “On” and right back to “Off” once more in quick succession. (On – Off – On – Off)
  5. Release the unlock button.
  6. Upon releasing the unlock button on your door, you’ll hear the door locks engage and disengage, signaling that the programming sequence can begin.
  7. On the Chevy remote start key fob, press and hold the “Unlock” and “Lock” buttons simultaneously until you hear the door locks engage and disengage again. This indicates that you have successfully programmed the Chevy key fob.
  8. Re-insert the programmed key back into the ignition to the “On” position, ending the programming sequence.
